Student-run investment fund

About the fund

We currently run a student-run investment fund at Victoria University of Wellington. This is done through our strategic partnership with the Victoria Finance and Investment Club. The fund’s primary objective is to provide a comprehensive educational experience for students, fostering a deep understanding of investment principles.

The fund is overseen by experienced professionals dedicated to mentoring students and offering expertise in investment decision-making. The investment decisions are made by an investment committee, comprising a minimum of two students, one academic staff member and one industry professional.

Overall, the fund provides students with the opportunity to acquire knowledge in the following areas:

  • Portfolio management

  • How to value securities (DCF, comparable companies, comparable transactions)

  • Presentation and writing skills

  • The investment process

  • The fund additionally provides students with hands-on experience in financial management, allowing them the opportunity to navigate the challenges associated with handling monetary resources within a supportive and controlled environment.

The fund currently has eight holdings. It has exited two positions. To see these holdings and their performance, click below.
